CURRENT TRENDS IN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE: LEADERSHIP PERSPECTIVES

Dipo Adeda-Osinloye, a Business and Risk Management expert recently re-launched his book: Current Trends in Corporate Governance: Leadership Perspectives. In a chat with him, he tells us all about his new book and the motivation behind writing.

He started by explaining that the issues of Corporate Governance have been on the front burner of conversations in recent years due to the failure of different organisations as a result of an ineffective or a non-existent practice of Corporate Governance. He mentioned that a lot of businesses are usually focused on the day-to-day running of their organisations, which is different from Corporate Governance.  He stated that Corporate Governance is a system of control which dictates how a board of directors govern and oversee a company. He further explained that there are different theories and even definitions to Corporate Governance and they have all been articulated in his book.

He elaborated that the need for this book has become stronger now than ever because a failure of Corporate Governance practices in businesses translates into failure of such businesses and this eventually determines the fate of the economy of nations. He therefore mentioned that his goal is for the book to help organisations, researchers and even economies to see the importance of effective Corporate Governance and commit to its effective implementation.

He further reiterated that based on this premise, and because the performance of these organizations is of interest to both governments and citizens, he has ensured to keep explaining the existing limitations to the effective implementation of Corporate Governance, while proffering solutions even for start-ups and small businesses. He posited that it is trite that no business is too strong or has been in existence for too long to be immune to failure, without effective Corporate Governance procedures.

Adeda-Osinloye stated that his book which was first published in 2016 and updated in 2019 and more recently in 2022, recognises new trends that affect Corporate Governance such as new laws, technological advancement and even Covid-19.

This book is therefore aimed at expounding the need for the effective practice of Corporate Governance vis a vis current developments around the world especially the boom of technology while proffering solutions to global challenges that has plagued the effective implementation of Corporate Governance, he concluded.
