The winner of the car in the Gauteng Sport Awards public SMS votes, 27-year-old Gomolemo Tsatsi from Krugersdorp in the Westrand, is now the owner of her new VW Polo sedan.
The ecstatic Gomolemo, was presented with her prize by MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Morakane Mosupyoe at the handover ceremony held at Johannesburg Stadium on Tuesday, 11 April 2023.
An avid football fan and player Gomolemo, spent over R300 of her unemployed money to vote for her favourite Banyana Banyana star, Andile Dlamini who also walked away with the most prized, Sport Personality of the Year Award.
Gomolemo is currently unemployed and previously worked as a teacher/lecturer at Westcol TVET College in Randfontein.
Handing over the car keys to her new car, Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Morakane Mosupyoe expressed how befitting it was that the car was won by a young lady. According to her “it shows how when women believe in and support each other, (they) will also gain and benefit from such”.
“In the month where we just celebrated the legacy of MmeCharlotte Mannya Maxeke, this is a living example of what she meant when she said we should bring each other up when we rise ”, added MEC Mosupyoe.
“It’s very exciting that I was just voting for someone to win and that I also ended up winning is big, and I thank God and everyone who made it possible, thank you.” said an excited Gomolemo upon receiving her prize.
The Gauteng Sports Awards’ intent is to reward the province’s sports stars for their efforts in keeping the passion of sport alive. Their aim is to recognize and honour individuals and teams who have excelled both on and off field.
