Bongani Mashobani Shawu, better known as ‘Madthedj,’ possesses not only prowess on the decks but also a heart of gold. Giving back to the community entails more than just seeing smiles and shoes on the dance floor, leave alone the cheers of the crowd, but also putting smiles on the faces of the impoverished.
Madthedj started his career at the SoulCandi Institute of Music in 2009, mixing kwaito, hip hop, and house music (drum & bass) into a club sound that works equally well at events and festivals as it does on dance floors. Madthedj is a well-known house producer and remixer who has worked with some of the most influential hip hop musicians. Madthedj has shared the stage alongside Black Coffee, Dj Zinhle, Major League Djs, Oskido, and Kabza De Small, among others. Outside of South Africa, he has appeared at Club B6 Botswana and the University of Lesotho.
MadTheDJ has influenced many people in his neighborhood while working alongside George Mfana Shikathi. Because George comes from a low-income family, they have the same desire to make a difference. He has been giving back to his community without a sponsor for over five years, with over 100 children benefiting from his charity, and the goal is to do more.
