This Youth Day, Nedbank will shine the spotlight on the power of “X”, which signifies the unknown potential embodied in every one of us that’s just waiting for the right conditions to reveal itself.
“As we reflect on the state of our youth, the statistics tell a stark story,” says Buli Ndlovu, Executive Head of RBB Marketing at Nedbank.” Almost a quarter of a million young people lost their jobs in the first three months of 2023, meaning a total of 4.9 million young people are unemployed – this is 61% of people aged between 15 and 24. It is imperative that we give our youth every opportunity and guidance to help them succeed.”
“We have partnered with YFM, who will be branded XFM on the day, to reach and inspire young people to unlock their X and share the resources available to them at Nedbank, such as YouthX the platform, which is all about unlocking the potential we see in our young people.
“It’s all about ‘Unlocking your X’!”
XFM’s programming on 16 June will be oriented towards explaining what the YouthX platform is all about, and how it can help young people realise their potential. Each programme slot will feature some of the founding anchors of YFM alongside the resident DJ, each sharing their journey of reaching their potential. Each slot will also run a competition based on that segment’s theme.

But there’s more to XFM than just one day on the airwaves. The XFM mobile recording studio/ content hub will travel to various youth-centric locations around the county—think places like Hatfield, Braamfontein, Umlazi, and Khayelitsha—to give young people a platform to tell their story and unlock their X while getting sound financial advice.
The vans are equipped with cutting-edge equipment to ensure the very best quality of content, which will be shared across the YouthX platforms on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
“To every young person out there, Nedbank is here to help you reach your aspirations, so be on the lookout for the XFM van and let your voice be heard,” concludes Ndlovu.
