After three remarkable years of service to the ALEXANDRA community through community broadcast media; KARABO also known as “KMASS” MASEMOLA has finally reached the door to fulfilling her dream of heading into the prime time of radio broadcasting. The young, talented and creative KMASS is leaving AFRICA’s first ever community radio station – ALEX FM – to join AFRICA’s most vibrant youth radio station – YFM.
Leaving this ICONIC community radio station; she leaves behind a legacy of dedication, community impact and undeniable growth. KARABO MASEMOLA – knee “THE KMASS” – first joined ALEX FM as host of a youthful hip hop show – THE MIXTAPE SHOW – where her talent and magnetic energy quickly caught the eyes of ALEX FM’s PROGRAMMES LEADERSHIP to earn her promotion to prime time broadcasting on the ALEX FM broadcast platform where she was promoted to be the host of the mid-morning weekday show. During her journey of growth within the ALEX FM platform; her light seemed too bright to ignore and that led her to an even greater opportunity on the ALEX FM platform. The opportunity was that of becoming host on an even bigger prime time show – the afternoon drive-time show THE FAST LANE – where she captured countless hearts across the ALEXANDRA community including the GREATER ALEXANDRA COMMUNITY and beyond.
KARABO “KMASS” MASEMOLA – A LIGHT THAT SHINES BRIGHTER THAN SHINE ITSELF
Beyond her on-air presence; KMASS used her platform to give back meaningfully. Through her non-profit organization – THE SHARE BUTTON FOUNDATION – she has managed to organize and led charity initiatives to support old age and children’s homes in ALEXANDRA – embodying the SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE that ALEX FM stands for.
As she moves forward towards conquering the world of broadcast media climbing aboard the YFM ship – SOUTH AFRICA’s leading youth radio station. She joins YFM where she can already be heard on this youth radio station’s platform; as she is currently hosting THE PLAYGROUND WITH KMASS every Friday morning between 03h00 and 05h00; where she continues to connect with and inspire a growing audience. Clearly while she is on her way to total radio broadcast dominance; she has proven that within the future of radio broadcasting in SOUTH AFRICA it is pretty clear that her industry peers just have to start bracing themselves for the entrance of a REAL DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH PRINCESS – who is heading all the way up and gunning for that number one (1) spot. And this can all be understood from her broadcasting prowess as she is a voice on two different radio platforms – that of ALEX FM and YFM. Something that is not a norm within the radio broadcast sector. Unless – of cos – you are a talented diamond such as KARABO “KMASS” MASEMOLA.
While she has seen the definition of ups and downs within the radio broadcast sector; through the difficult journey that ALEX FM has been through within the last 10 years; it is obvious that one can declare that through all the obstacles that ALEX FM has gone through – KARABO “KMASS” MASEMOLA is the outcomes, result or reward of ALEX FM surviving all the adversity that it has gone through as a community audio/radio broadcast brand. The station may have lost a staff member from a bullet in the year 2022 and the station having been looted during SOUTH AFRICA’S looting era in 2021; these losses may have been hard hitting eras for the ALEX FM brand – but towards the end of the tunnel and rainbow a diamond in the rough has been unearthed and YFM is the beneficiary of that discovery.

With her aspirations remaining deeply rooted in using her voice and influence to achieve positive impact; she hopes to elevate further within the commercial radio space – this after her ALEX FM journey has indeed ELEVATED not only her MIND but her career. This with the hope that she ELEVATES her career even further within the commercial radio space – allowing her to reach her fullest potential. We sincerely hope that YFM will be the platform to develop and propel her even further, allowing her to reach her fullest potential.
KMASS is a true diamond in the rough; it is even safe to declare that she is a product of resilience and pure talent — having weathered some of Alex FM’s most challenging times – through it all being the epitome of what hope is – she remains a beacon of hope and light that one can rise from the ground, dust one-self off and march on to conquer all the challenges and hurdles that one comes across on.
As she embarks on this next chapter, we extend our congratulations to her and wish Karabo ‘KMass’ Masemola nothing but success in her future endeavors. It is safe to be confident that her star will continue to shine, that light will continue to shine on her and that her journey is yet to inspire many – especially young women from within the township community.
