Universal Music Group South Africa Celebrates Maskandi Music Heritage and Honours Khuzani’s 15-Year Legacy

Universal Music Group South Africa hosted the UMG Maskandi Showcase, a spectacular celebration of Maskandi music and a tribute to Khuzani’s 15 incredible years in the music industry. The event took place at the Universal Music offices in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
The showcase featured electrifying performances from some of Maskandi’s brightest stars, including upcoming duo, Amasinamuva Amasha, the rising star, uMlabalaba. The highlight of the evening was Mbuzeni’s show-stopping performance with a live band, where he wowed audiences with his impressive guitar tricks and a unique Maskandi cover of Rihanna’s hit song, Diamond.
The event was a testament to Universal Music’s commitment to promoting and celebrating African music and culture. Khuzani, a Maskandi icon, was honored for his contributions to the genre with him receiving 5 Plaques, 3 Gold Certifications for his album, ‘Inja Nogodo’ and his 2 singles ‘Imbongolo’ & ‘Angidlali Nezingane’; a Platinum Certification for ‘Umjolo Lowo’ and Double-Platinum Certification for his single ‘Ijele’. Khuzani expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation to Universal Music, his fans and the media for their unwavering support they have given him throughout his musical career.
The UMG Maskandi Showcase demonstrated the power and energy of Maskandi music with the company showcasing its new talent and highlighting their focus and investment in this fast-growing genre as well, which is also important in South Africa’s cultural heritage and preservation.
